Ethiopian Detour.

So we're currently sitting in a hotel in Addis Ababa...what a journey it's been so far and I still don't feel like I am in Africa!

Original plan: Flight from Toronto to Addis Ababa at 11am, 4 hour layover, another 4 hour flight to Zanzibar arriving at 2:40pm local time.

Deviated itinerary:
- Board flight in Toronto just past 11am
- Sit on the plane for 3.5 hours because 1) a passenger's suitcase was missing 2) the runway needed to be de-iced
- Arrive after 13 hour flight to miss our connecting flight by 5 minutes
- Provided with a hotel, transit to and from airport, lunch, supper, and 3 minute of international call
- New flight to Zanzibar at 10pm, arriving at 3:30am

This is the hotel room we were given, surprisingly nicer than expected...

The weather here is GORGEOUS! It's hot, but not humid and sunny with clear skies. Hopefully Zanzibar will be the same!

We called home to give them an update, although it was 4:30am at home I'm sure they were glad to hear from us. We were supposed to get picked up at the Zanzibar airport by our landlord, so we had to find a way of contacting him to let him know we wouldn't be on the original flight, only issue was that we didn't have a number to contact him with. So we called our new friend, Abdi, who haven't met yet but was passed to us from the girls that did the same placement earlier this year. Both him and our landlord Yahya were so sweet! We are definitely lucky to already have people that are so nice and willing to help us even before we met them. Another 6 hours here in Ethiopia and then we're finally off to Zanzibar! 20 hour travel turned into 33 hours, but still going strong.
